Personal Reflection Through Clay
Functional Ware

I began working with clay in the fall of 2021 as a way to navigate the pressures of work and the quiet isolation of that time. What started as a hobby has grown into something deeper, a space for reflection, expression, and healing.

Pottery allows me to slow down and be fully present. When I’m working with clay, it’s just me and my hands. No distractions. No lists. Just the act of creating. In that space, memories surface. I reflect on places I’ve been, colors I’ve seen, and the people who have shaped my life.

Each piece carries part of that experience. My work holds quiet references to the outdoors, to music, and to the people I love, especially those I’ve lost. These influences aren’t always obvious, but they are always present in the form and feeling of each piece.

I create under the name “Steffie,” a nickname given to me by my nephew when he was young. It’s a name that has stayed with me over the years, carried by family and now carried into my work.
